Title:
Restraint Patterns & Body Shapes (Beyond Takate Kote)
Description:
An important aspect of the Japanese tradition of restraint is the different patterns and positions of the restrained person.
These patterns are not simply tied up in this workshop. Instead, their history and development are discussed in detail, as are their intended use and different variations. It is shown that there is not just one way to tie these patterns and positions, and that many patterns can be tied with just one rope.
The different patterns show that the hands do not always have to be tied behind the back, but that many techniques allow the hands to be placed in front, which enables greater closeness between the persons being tied up.
Despite all the technique, the effective and efficient movement and manipulation of Ukete (the person being tied up) is not forgotten.
The Patterns and Forms Workshop is an open course. Depending on the skill and progress of the participants, different numbers of techniques are practiced.
A selection of possible course content (depending on skill and progress in the course):
- Nijubishi (2-diamond bondage)
- Tengu (“the mountain demon”)
- Teppo Shibari (“the rifle bearer”)
- Kamakiri (“praying mantis”)
- Kubikaze (choker tie – “the strangler”)
- Jiai Shibari (“I love myself” restraint)
- Shakuhachi (arm flute)
- ...
